Who We Are

Deck Rejuvenation is run by Ben Jarvie. I’ve been restoring timber decks across Melbourne since the 1990s — starting in the northeast suburbs around Eltham, Diamond Creek, and Lower Plenty, and now covering all of metro Melbourne.

We’re not a franchise. There’s no call centre, no revolving door of subcontractors, and no one-size-fits-all approach. Every deck is different — different timber, different exposure, different history — and we treat it that way. We don’t do production-line deck restoration. We’re not trying to turn this into a fast food chain.

We specialise in bringing weathered, neglected, and sun-damaged timber back to life — and then keeping it that way. Our core services:

• Deck restoration — full strip-back and refinish for decks that have been let go
• Deck sanding — professional machine sanding to remove old coatings and grey timber
• Deck oiling — premium oil application for long-lasting weather and UV protection
• Deck repairs — board replacement, structural fixes, and trip hazard rectification
• NDIS deck safety works — anti-slip treatments, step repairs, and access improvements for aging in place
• Ongoing maintenance programs — we come back on schedule so your deck never slips backwards

We also restore staircases, handrails, pergolas, and timber cladding — if it’s outdoor timber in Melbourne, we look after it.

How We Work

Every job follows the same 9-step process we’ve refined over decades. No shortcuts, no skipped steps. It starts with countersinking every nail and screw, moves through multiple waves of progressively finer sanding, detailed edge work, a deep brightening wash, and finishes with two generous coats of premium Australian-made decking oil.

The reason our finishes outlast most is because the preparation is meticulous — not because we’ve found some magic product. That said, after years of testing every decking oil on the market through Melbourne’s heat, frost, and sideways rain, we know exactly what holds up and what doesn’t. We won’t use cheap product on your deck just to save a few dollars. It’s false economy and we won’t put our name to it.

Local Roots

We grew up around Nillumbik and Banyule — suburbs like Eltham, Montmorency, and Kangaroo Ground. That photo above is my nephew Coopa and me planting a gum tree on the Luck Street roundabout in Eltham back in 2012. It’s still there — taller than both of us now. A quiet reminder that we’ve literally put roots down here, just like the families we work for.

Our regulars stretch right across Melbourne these days. We’re out in Bundoora and Northcote most weeks, through to Warrandyte and Heidelberg, and as far out as Gisborne and Clonbinane. We also have an office at Suite 47/139 Cardigan St, Carlton.
